BOOK REVIEW -- When August Ends by Penelope Ward

N O W - A V A I L A B L E

WHEN AUGUST ENDS

What do you do when a sexy, older man moves into your family’s summer rental?

Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself—over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least.

But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake—not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. He’d booked it for the entire summer…and I was still trying to figure out why.

When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of. I should have been in college. Instead, I was living my best life…as a maid.

Dark, handsome, and mysterious, everything about Noah screamed forbidden.

I knew he was just passing through town for the summer.

I knew he was probably too old for me.

Yet, I was drawn to him.

Not to mention, he tried to save my life when he mistakenly thought I was drowning.

I wanted him and made no secret of it.

His own attempts to warn me away soon gave way to late-night moonlight chats by the lake. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from.

Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer.

And I have no idea what I’ll do when August ends.

"She walked to me and fell into my arms. I held her tightly. For the first time, I let myself breathe her in, hold her the way I wanted to without resisting. I was a goner." -Noah

R E V I E W

This is exactly what reminds me of why I started reading Penelope's books! It's totally unexpected and unpredictable, in all the best way possible that is. Just when you think you had the book pegged out BOOM you did not! Will forever love her writing!

Heather is a young, bright and beautiful woman who is part of the Boathouse Rental "crew" that her family owns. When she was younger, her mother always told her to stay away, just in case. She didn't want her to be in any danger. As an adult now, she stays away out of habit BUT when Noah Cavallari from Pennsylvania rents out one of the boat houses, she is curious. A little too curious. I mean who wouldn't be with a body built like a Greek god & that face. Heather become a little MORE interested as the days go.

Noah Cavallari is a school teacher that moved to escape. Being a world famous photographer, work took him all over the world. He chose the cabin's for a specific reason, and now ends up helping out with some of the minor repair and up-toon's needed on the one he is staying at.

Their relationship is simply platonic, for the longest time he would not tell her his age. Which only irritated her more. He once told her, he could be old enough to be her father, she didn't believe that for a second, but he just simple would not tell her how old he is. When one night Heather puts herself out there, and gets rejected not once but twice..well she learned her lesson. Or well she tried learning the lesson.

I don't want to say more to ruin it BUT i will say that this is the first time in many years that I read a book where the heroine is younger and I LOVED IT. Yes, she had some immature traits and moments but because of the fact that heather is a straight up forward person and quirky...I JUST DEVOURED the story, her actions, her crazy and her golden heart. Brave young girl to take on what she took, and BOOO Noah for just being well NOAH! grrrr...sorry but had to be said, I was slightly mad at him. I will warn your right now, you will need tissues! That's all I am going to say!

A HIGH 5 PLUS PLUS & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! It made it on MY TOP 2019 MUST READ list!
